Despite being known as “Panama Hats”, the genuine Montecristi hats are manufactured in Ecuador, NOT Panama. The fame and the use of this hat was wrongly and undeservedly extended with the name of “Panama Hat", without recognizing that the “toquilla straw” grows in Ecuador, it is then hand-woven in Ecuador by Ecuadorian artisans.The real name is "MONTECRISTI HAT".Grade Categorizations:A fine and well-woven straw hat takes additional time to manufacture. Our Panama Hats (straw hats) are qualified by grades 13, 14, 15, 16, etc. Grade16 being finer than Grade 13 and therefore more expensive. No matter the high price of “Montecristi Hat”, the quality and utility that it provides makes it worth it. Its not only a hat, it is an ancient culture that currently walks among us.
